Documentary

After a life-long search, a woman discovers and attempts to get to know her deceased, sperm donor father--doctor, scientist, prolific artist--making even more discoveries along the way. Donna Marvin-Platt's mother was artificially inseminated in the early 1960s, and it wasn't until Donna was about 30 that she learned she was donor-conceived. At the time she was conceived, the donor system was one of anonymity, and her parents signed a contract with the fertility clinic promising that they would never seek out the donor's identity. After over 20 years of searching, Donna finally discovered the identity of her biological father through a DNA test, and she learned by way of a paternal cousin that her biological father had been a doctor, an artist and a humanitarian. Though he had already passed, she interviews his closest friends and, through these conversations, learns about her father and uncovers so many shared characteristics. Missed Conceptions serves as a way of connecting Donna with the father she never met and provides a voice for those in the donor-conceived community who desire to know and/or have a relationship with their genetic parents.
